Rotary Club Celebrates Scottsdale's Youth Leaders

Each year Rotary Club of Scottsdale sponsors National Council on Youth Leadership Youth Salute program, in partnership with Scottsdale Airpark Rotary Club.  Youth Salute, a recognition program for high school juniors, is designed to applaud young people who have been elected to a leadership position by their peers, in their schools and or community organizations. Youth. Every year, City of Scottsdale Rotarians and members of the education and business community are assembled to read and judge essays submitted by the contestants. Shortly thereafter, an interview night is scheduled where committees of the essay judges conduct oral interviews with the contestants. Ten semi-finalists are selected. These ten semi-finalists are then announced during the Awards Night at Scottsdale Community College and each of the ten semi-finalists is given two minutes to answer a "final question" before all gathered. Four winners are then selected to receive scholarships and trips to a leadership Town Meeting on Tomorrow conference in at St. Louis, Missouri.   As part of the 2015 Award Night program activities, Youth Salute Program Co-Chair/Rotary Club of Scottsdale member, Mary Blank, presented award certificates to the 26 Youth Salute nominees and announced the four 2015 Scottsdale Youth Salute Award Winners going to the 2015 Town Meeting on Tomorrow at Washington University in St. Louis:  from Phoenix Country Day High School - Jason Greenfield and Cole Dady; from Notre Dame High School - Allison Yeomans; and, from Chaparral High School - Addie Buzas

After returning from St. Louis, 2015 Scottsdale Youth Salute winner, Addie Buzas thanked the Clubs for the experience and stated: I had an amazing time at the Town Meeting on Tomorrow. I would give my experience a complete 10/10.  One of the best parts about the conference was how many activities we did, including the ones outside such as the St. Louis Zoo and the Team Olympics.  Being outside was a great way to break up the workshops that were inside and provide opportunities in a different settings to learn about everyone at the conference. Everyone there, the participants and the leaders, was so kind, mature, and insightful. I made several new friends that I keep in contact with now. Not only did I learn about the other people but also I learned about myself.  To discuss the world's problems and brainstorm solutions with the future leaders of our society was an absolutely unforgettable experience.
