following Club and Foundation programs, projects and events are
designed to directly benefit youth in our community and around the
world.
The service link following each
description will take you to the "Avenue of Service" under which
the program operates.
ANNUAL FAMILY
HOLIDAY PARTY:
Joe
Hegstead, Chair - Every year,
just before the holiday season, Scottsdale Rotary holds it's annual
Family Holiday Party for Rotarians, their spouses, partners ,
children, grandchildren, friends and other family members. All
visiting Rotarians and their family are also welcome to attend this
spectacular event. CLUB SERVICE
COMPUTERS FOR KIDS: Curt
Bruggman, Chair - This
program provides refurbished computers and new printers to
worthy youth in the Scottsdale area. VOCATIONAL
SERVICE
THE GIFT OF LIFE: Bob
Karatz, Chair - The Gift of Life
Arizona, literally saves lives, the lives of children. This
organization brings children from under privileged parts of the
world, to the Valley, to undergo needed heart
surgery. Individual members of the Rotary Club of Scottsdale
have not only given financial support to this organization, but have
also hosted the children and their families while they are in the

GOLF TOURNAMENT: Alan Elkins
& Kent Hammond, Co-Chairmen - Our annual
Golf Tournament provides the opportunity for a day of fun and
fellowship on the links of some of the Valleys notable golf courses.
This event also serves as a fundraiser for many of the club and
foundation's Youth programs and projects. CLUB
SERVICE
INTERACT: Doug
Mardian, Chair - Interact is a "Rotary Club" for high school
students. Scottsdale Rotary sponsors the Interact Club at Saguaro
High School in Scottsdale. Interacters perform community service
projects and enjoy many benefits of fellowship with other
service-oriented youth.

LITERACY:
Book Donation Program -
The Rotary Club of Scottsdale donates one book for each of it
meetings to the Thomas J. Pappas school.
RYLA
(ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD CAMP): John
Thornton, Chair - Once per year,
the Rotary Club of Scottsdale sponsors two high scholars who have
demonstrated leadership skills, to participate in a 4-6 day
leadership camp in northern Arizona. This is also one of the few
programs available to relatives of Rotarians. VOCATIONAL

THE SALVATION ARMY: Merv Morelock, Chair - Each and every
year, just prior to the holidays, members of the Rotary Club of
Scottsdale perform a variety of services and lend their support to
the Salvation Army. Scottsdale Rotarians are "Bell
Ringers," accumulate coins for the "Changing Lives"
program, donate toys to under privileged children through
"The Angel Tree" program and make outright gifts to the Salvation

SCHOLARSHIPS:
Willie
McDonald, Chair - The longest
standing tradition of the Rotary Club of Scottsdale is to award
annual scholarships in a variety of categories to high school

YOUTH EXCHANGE: Max
Rumbaugh, Chair - This program allows both inbound and
outbound high school students to travel and study in foreign
lands for an entire year. INTERNATIONAL

YOUTH SALUTE: Garrett Olson, Chair
- Youth Salute is an annual competition in which high school
juniors submit essays and undergo in-person interviews with judging
groups of Scottsdale Rotarians for the purpose of winning an all
expense paid trip to a national leadership seminar at Washington
