Scottsdale Rotary's 2008-09 President - Kent Wick
Kent was born in the
Valley in 1954, eight years prior to the Town of Paradise Valley being
incorporated. At the time, his parents Henry and Jane, home at Judson School was under
construction. The house still exists in
its original form today. He attended K-12 at Judson School before attending the University of Arizona from 1972-1974 and Arizona State University from 1974-1977, where
he received Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.
In
1975 Kent obtained a realtors
license and decided to work for Russ Lyon Realty helping market "Dix
Homes," a development company owned by a previous Scottsdale Rotarian,
Von Dix. A few years later he asked Denny Lyon if
he could take a "short" leave of absence and work for his
father at Judson. The leave lasted eighteen years!
At
Judson School, Kent did a great deal of
International recruiting of students and visited over thirty counties. In
1986 he ran for Paradise Valley Town Council and after two terms, was elected
Mayor. Kent was the youngest and
only Mayor to be born in the Town.
In
2003 Kent again asked Denny
Lyon if his Sales Associate position was still available, it was.
In 1994 Norval Tyler, a good friend, told Kent he needed to join
"this great group" of service-oriented people who do wonderful things
for the community and many international projects. The next thing he
knew, he was a Rotarian (we do things a bit differently now).
In 1998 he purchased a cabin in Sandpoint, Idaho on the 26th largest
fresh water lake in the world and with the help of Jim Hann and Sean Hefley, Kent is now involved in
five small development projects. Kent also has an
Idaho Real Estate License.
In 2005, Kent married a fun and wonderful woman, Nipa.
Kent also has a twenty-one
years old son, Jared, who is a Senior, studying International Business at Pepperdine University in California.
Kent looks forward to his
Scottsdale Rotary Presidency and will do his best on
your behalf.
